Abstract

An aluminium base alloy, suitable for use as a galvanic anode for cathodic protection, comprises .Zn.1 - 4% .Mn.0.2 - 0.6% .Ti.0.005 - 0.1% .Be.0.001 - 0.005% .Hg.0.05 - 0.15% the balance being aluminium of at least 99.8% purity. The alloy may be made by introducing the following master alloys into molten aluminium:-Al, 4% Ti; Al, 10% Mn and Zn, 15% Hg. The mercury master alloy should be wrapped in aluminium foil to prevent mercury loss on introduction into the molten aluminium.
