1,078,033. Loading washing machines. H. EILERS and J. WITT, [trading as E. F. TEXTILIEN & APPARATE-BAU & VERTRIEBS-GESELLSCHAFT, EILERS & WITT KOMM-GES], July 10, 1964 [July 12, 1963], No. 28632/64. Heading D1A. Articles to be washed are delivered to a shaft 16 divided by a portion 18 into receptacles each having a pivoted flap 20a, 20b to retain articles directed alternately thereto by a guide flap 32 pivoted at the top of the partition, injection means 33 being provided to spray pre-treating liquid on to the clothes and control means being provided to operate the various flaps to deposit the articles from one receptacle into a compartment of a washing machine. Agitator 12, Fig. 1, divides the drum machine 10 which is the first of a series, into two compartments a, b and assists in the transfer of the articles to the next washing machine of the series. Flaps 20a, 20b each comprising an accurate wall 22 and quadrant-like end walls 24 secured to shafts 26a, 26b and rotated by the piston rods of hydraulic cylinders 27a, 27b pivoted to shaft 16. Washing liquid is supplied to articles in shaft 16 through pipes 33 and surplus liquid passes through discharge ducting to drains a storage place or the washing machine. Articles are delivered to shaft 16 by a conveyer 34 which may have partitions 36. Alternatively, Figure 4 (not shown), the articles are delivered to the loading arrangement by hand and are delivered to a washing machine with a two compartment drum. There may be a number of these machines side-byside and trolleys 54, 56 for dirty and clean clothes respectively.
