Abstract

[Also in Division F2] In a motor vehicle suspension a leaf spring 13, which is connected to an axle 11 and which is mounted on the sprung part 12 of the vehicle by two pivots 14, 15, is characterized in that it has adjacent one end a bend 17 such that, during deflection, the bend is stressed to alter the longitudinal stress in the main part of the spring and thus alter the spring rate. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the bend is in the form of an upwardly-directed loop. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the end (17) consists of a return bend which is bolted at (18) directly on to the vehicle chassis.
