Abstract

1,077,831. Xerographic multi-colour copying apparatus. HITACHI SEISAKUSHO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Aug.4, 1964 [July 25, 1963], No.30967/64. Heading G2H. Light passed through a reflector from the original 1 is first passed through one of a plurality of interchangeable filters in rotatable disc 5 for different colours and the monochromatic light is used to form an electrostatic image on a photo-conductive printing paper 10 carried on a rotating drum 8, and pre-charged at 12, the image being developed by the developing means 13, 14, 15, or 16 corresponding to the colour of the filter, and then fixed at 17. This process is repeated successively using the remaining colour filters 5 and developers and printing the monochromatic images in superposition on the same paper 10 which is returned to the same position for the successive exposures. Alternatively, the developed images formed on an earthed photo-conductive drum are transferred and fixed successively on to a sheet of ordinary paper carried on a second rotating drum contacting the first. A toner cleaning device is then provided. A half-tone screen may be used. The drum may be replaced by a belt or prismatic structure, and the electrostatic image may be transferred before development. The original is scanned by a movable unit comprising light source 2, slit 3, and optical systems 4 and 6 whereby light is directed from successive strips of the original through slit 7 adjacent drum 8. The register of the printing paper for successive images, the changing of filter and developer colour, and the projection of the original are all controlled by the successive coincidences of signal generator 18 and a detector 18a on the drum 8.
