Abstract

Phenols are recovered from alkali phenolate solutions by a two-stage process in which, in the first stage, an alkali phenolate solution is carbonized with carbon dioxide under conditions which convert the alkali into alkali bicarbonate and, in the second stage, a further quantity of alkali phenolate solution is treated with alkali bicarbonate solution from the first stage. Examples are given.
