Abstract
1,077,512. Discharge apparatus. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 8, 1964 [Nov. 29, 1963], No. 41123/64. Heading H1D. An electric discharge tube (10) in the neighbourhood of a loud-speaker is protected by an acoustic-electrostatic shield (16) of resilient rubber vulcanizate having sufficient carbon black dispersed therein to provide an electrical resistivity of less than 10<SP>8</SP> ohm. cm. and a durometer reading of between 30 and 80. The walls of the cylindrical shield are preferably spaced from the tube envelope, with its open end fitting over a metal screen (12) of the tube socket (11), and is held in place by dimples (19); alternatively, the shield may be earthed through a capacitor or a resistor.
