Abstract

A stocking knitted from a two-component crimpable filament each component being of fibre forming molecular weight and having dissimilar shrinkage values, exhibits a stress retention in the knee and ankle region of about 60%. The filament may be formed on one side of a polyhexamethylene adipamide and on the other side of a polyhexamethylene adipamide/polyhexamethylene sebacamide such that when the greige stockings are relaxed steamed at approximately 215 DEG F at atmospheric pressure a crimp develops in the filament. Subsequently the stocking is dyed and postboarded and is found to have a stress retention of the desired order.
