Abstract

1,076,694. Knitted fabrics. B. T. R. REYMES-COLE. Feb. 26, 1964 [March 4, 1963], No. 8545/63. Heading D1K. A stocking is formed from a tubular blank and has a heel portion formed with extra fullness by having in groups of wales on each side of this portion a knitted structure in which the fabric is compacted in the direction along the wales. Figure 3 shows how the portions may be formed by floating bars 21 alternatively behind and in front of loops 19 to form a four course sequence, the loops 19 being longer than the normal loops. Alternatively a two-course sequence may be used in a similarfashion. In a further embodiment (Fig. 7) tuckstitches may be used to produce the same compacting effect. In a further embodiment (not shown) float stitches are used in a single wale which is separated from the main portion of float stitches by two normal wales and is located on the instep side of the main portion. A thermoplastic yarn may be used to facilitate the final boarding operation.
