Abstract

1,075,890. Burners. COMBUSTION EFFICIENCY CORPORATION. Nov. 17, 1965 [May 5, 1965], No. 48823/65. Heading F4T. A burner adapted to burn oil and/or gas comprises a gasifying chamber 21 into which oil is delivered by a conduit 26, gas by a conduit 42 and heated air by a pipe 35B. The heated air vaporizes the oil and the mixture is conveyed by a pipe 29 to a burner tip 22 having a plurality of radial passages 32 leading to discharge ports in an upwardly and outwardlyinclined surface of the tip. The air is heated by the burner in a flexible and corrugated conduit 35 circumscribing the burner tip; the air is supplied by a blower 36. At starting, the oil is vaporized by an electric band or cartridge heater 37 disposed in the gasifying chamber, and during burning the electric heater is energized intermittently by thermostat 40 to maintain the temperature in the gasifying chamber between 600‹ and 900‹ F. The burner is ignited by electrodes 34. In order to consume accumulated residue -in the gasifying chamber the mixture is periodically ignited in the gasifying chamber by an igniter 41 in the form of a glow plug, an electrode or spark plug. A mantle of inconel mesh may be mounted on the burner. In a modification, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), the air heating chamber (52) is made of refractory material and is of annular form, the inner wall (57) being of stepped configuration. An inlet (60) and an outlet (61) are disposed on opposite sides of a transverse wall (59) in the chamber. In a further modification, Figs. 6, 7, 8 (not shown), the air heating chamber (79) is a cylindrical annular chamber and surrounds a burner nozzle (81) disposed inside a furnace. The gasifying chamber (72) is disposed outside the furnace. The air conduit (87) from the air-heating chamber has a valve controlled brunch (89) leading to the gasifying chamber and a second valve-controlled branch (90) leading to the pipe (78) conveying mixture to the burner nozzle. In a still further embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown), the airheating chamber comprises two vertically spaced annular conduits (106, 107) incorporated in an incandescent mantle (105) and interconnected by upright conduits (108). 1,075,896. Heat storing apparatus. S-O JANSSON. June 23, 1964 [July 16, 1963; May 26, 1964], No. 25906/64. Heading F4U. [Also in Division A4] A thermal storage steam raiser and/or air heater, particularly for use in a bathroom, comprises a container 4 filled with stones 5 and having a number of electric resistance heaters protected by tubes 10 in direct contact with the stones. Side chambers 13 contain further heaters 14. When water is poured over the heated stones it is converted into steam and any unconverted water is collected by a bowl 9. The top 7 has grilles 15 formed above the chambers 13 to direct hot air into the bathroom away from the wall. A self-closing lid (19) may cover the container 4, the steam escaping through an opening (26) under the front edge of the lid. Reflectors (27), (Fig. 7, not shown), may be placed below the heaters (14). The container 4 may be perforated, as shown, or have .grilles so inclined as to present water from dripping into the chambers 13.
