Abstract

In a gripper axminster loom the jacquard mechanism is arranged substantially horizontally so that the tuft yarns project downwardly. Tuft yarns (12) from a creel (16) are fed over guides (14) to yarn carriers (13) which have stepped slots (30), (31) under a number of jacquard cylinders (22), (23) which are alternately arranged and each act on a group of carriers (13). The cylinders (22), (23) move downwardly in two steps. During the first step a blank in a card causes a selector (26) to protrude into a slot (30), the jacquard carriage (24) is then moved to the right so that the selector (26) is over the deeper slot (31) and the cylinders are then moved downwardly again so that the selector enters the slot (31). The carriage (24) is then moved to the left so that the selector (26) abuts an edge (32) of the slot (31) and the carrier (13) is moved to present a selected tuft to the grippers (5).
