Abstract

Cellulosic fibres are treated with an aqueous solution of THPC, followed by drying and ammonia-curing, after a pre-treatment with an amino-plast resin (e.g. a known crease-proofing or dimensional stabilisation treatment). The add-on of amino-plast resin is 1-10%. The THPC solution has a concentration of 15-30% and its pH is adjusted to 3.5-4.0 by the addition of triethanolamine or sodium acetate. The THPC may be in a mixture containing up to 70% of 2:1 THPC-urea condensate. The ammonia-curing may be in two stages: first with gaseous and then with aqueous ammonia. The add-on of THPC is 2-5% (based on P). THPC is tetrakis hydroxymethyl phosphonium chloride.
