Abstract

1,074,663. Laminates. NATIONAL DISTILLERS & CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Aug. 23, 1965 [Aug. 31, 1964], No. 36016/65. Heading B5N. A process for coating a previously uncoated substrate with a molten polyolefine web comprises melting a polyolefine, extruding it in web form from extrusion die 3, subjecting the web to a corona discharge across electrodes 7 and 8 in the presence of oxygen, ozone, ammonia and/or a halogen, applying the web to a substrate 15 in the nip of rollers 5 and 6 and cooling the resultant laminate. Specified polyolefines are polyethylene, polypropylene and copolymers of ethylene or propylene with butene, pentene or hexene. Specified substrates are kraft paper, paper, paper board, glassine, fibre board, regenerated cellulose, polyethylene terephthalate sheet, metal foil, cloth and glass. The gas may be diluted with nitrogen, helium or argon.
