Bottles 3 are transferred from a conveyer belt 4 to two conveyer belts 5, 6 by tapering screws 1, 2 rotated in opposite directions. Each screw has two threads one of which increases in depth and the other of which decreases in depth when regarded from either end of the screw. The arrangement may be used to transfer the bottles from two belts on to one belt.
