Abstract

Novel compounds of the formula <FORM:1073770/C2/1> (wherein R is C1- 4 alkyl, R1 is hydrogen or C1- 4 alkyl, R2 is hydrogen or C1- 4 alkyl; and R3 is hydrogen or -(CHX)n-NZ, where X is hydrogen or C1- 4 alkyl, Z is two alkyl groups or an alkylene chain which may be interrupted by a hetero atom; and n is 1, 2 or 3) and acid-addition salts and quaternary ammonium derivatives thereof are prepared from a hydrazine NH2NHR3 and an acid R2COCHR1C(R)(OH)-COOH or an ester thereof with subsequent dehydration of the 4-hydroxy-pyridazone obtained in an acidic medium. The 4-hydroxy-pyridazinone, when R3 is H, may be reacted with a compound hal-(CHX)n-NZ in presence of an alkali metal alcoholate to substitute the nitrogen with the -(CHX)n-N2 group before dehydration. The pyridazones of the invention, which are stated to be useful as analeptic, cardiovascular, vasodilatory and hypertensive medicaments may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions for enteral and parenteral administration with suitable carriers.
