Abstract

1,073,410. Positive clutches. ZAHNBADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. Dec. 13, 1965 [Dec. 22, 1964], No. 52748/65. Heading F2C. Balk-rings 11, 12 of a double, friction-synchromeshed claw-clutch in a motor vehicle change-speed gear, have groups of balk-teeth 13, 14, spaced by recesses (22) (Fig. 2, not shown) and chamfered at an included angle of approximately 120 degrees to provide optimum balking effect with correspondingly chamfered groups of teeth on an internally toothed axiallyslidable clutch sleeve 16 splined on a shaft hub 4, the remaining teeth on the clutch sleeve 16 being chamfered at an included angle of approximately 95 degrees to provide easy engagement, as soon as synchronism is established, with correspondingly-chamfered teeth on clutch members 7, 8 fast on gear-wheels 2, 3 freely mounted on a shaft, all the teeth 17 on the sleeve 16 then being in driving mesh with the teeth 9 or 10 on the gear-wheels 2 or 3. The balk rings 11, 12 and/or synchronizing members 7, 8 are provided on their coned synchronizing surfaces with a wear-resisting coating of molybdenum or non-ferrous metal, or an organic lining, similar to a clutch lining, applied to the coned surface in band or powder form by adhesive bonding or pressing on. The synchronizing surface may further be provided with circular, preferably spirally shaped and/or axially directed oil grooves or incisions, which are cut after the lining application. If the balk rings 11, 12, shift sleeve 16 or clutch members 7, 8 are of non-ferrous metal, the relative balk and intermeshing teeth thereon may have a wear-resisting coating of hard chromium plating.
