Abstract

1,073,190. Temperature control of machine tools. TECHNION RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION Ltd. Dec. 24, 1963 [Dec. 25, 1962], No. 51003/63. Heading F4U. In a machine tool temperature control system passages in the machine tool components are connected to form a closed fluid circuit, whereby the temperature of each component is maintained constant. The liquid is circulated through the components 1-5 of the machine tool by a pump 6 and returns to a heat exchanger 8. A temperature controller 10 activates the switch 23 of electric heater 22 in response to the liquid temperature. A further liquid is supplied by pump 15 to nozzles 17, sprays the workpiece 18 and the tool and returns from a collector 19 through filter 20 to the heat exchanger where the liquids of the two circuits pass in heat exchange. If few metal cuttings are produced a single liquid circuit may be used both for temperaturecontrolling the machine-tool and spraying the workpiece and the tool. Water, hydraulic liquid or bearing oil may be used and may either heat or cool the system. A number of machine tools may have their corresponding circuits coupled together.
