Abstract
1,072,563. Hydrants. MERRYWEATHER & SONS Ltd. March 12, 1965 [April 2, 1964], No. 13681/64. Heading F1X. [Also in Division G3] In a hydrant, a pressure-responsive control valve 19, 20 admits the high pressure supply to the working space 11 of a hydraulic valve actuator 7 when the outlet pressure rises above a pre-set limit to cause the valve member 5 to move towards its closed position. The pressure in outlet 10 is communicated through passage 124 to act on spring-loaded piston 24 which, at the pre-set pressure, closes valve 19 and opens valve 20. The high pressure in inlet 9 is communicated through passage 22, chamber 21, valve 20, passages 18, 17, 14, 13 and 12 to space 11. If the outlet pressure falls below the pre-set limit valve 20 is closed and valve 19 opened and the outlet pressure is communicated through passages 124, 23, 18, 17, 14, 12, 13 to space 11. Valve 5 is moved to seek an equilibrium position which controls the outlet pressure. The control valve 19, 20 may communicate with the high pressure supply through an external pipe. The space 11 may be connected to the control valve 19, 20 through a flexible pipe inside the casing 3.
