1,072,273. Steering motor vehicles. RUDDSPEED Ltd. Jan. 11, 1966 [Jan. 28, 1965], No. 3913/65. Heading B7H. An assembly connecting a steering column 19 and steering- box 16 disposed on opposite sides of a motor vehicle comprises a first drive unit 1 connected to the steering column 19, a second drive unit 2 connected to the steering-box 16 by a universal joint 17, a tube 3 rigidly secured to the units 1, 2 to maintain them in spaced relation, a bulkhead mounting plate 21 secured to the unit 2 for mounting the assembly in the vehicle, and means for transmitting steering torque between the units. The units 1, 2 contain right-angle helical or spiral bevel gears connected by a cross-shaft in the tube 3, or the units may be connected by a chain and sprocket drive or by a gear train.
