Abstract

Newsprint paper is made from the wood of Hevea Brasiliensis by steeping hogged chips in dilute caustic soda, and treating it therewith for 1-5 hours. Pressure impulses or vacuum may be used to impregnate the chips, and the product may be defibred in a refiner or hammermill and bleached with hypochlorite. The residual liquor from the steep may be recycled. Pulp treated by the above process may be mixed with bleached sulphite pulp or with bleached or semi-bleached sulphate pulp before being worked up into paper.
