Abstract
Metal surfaces contaminated with phosphates are cleaned with an aqueous alkaline solution of a gluconic sequestering agent 4 to 15 g./l., a polyethylene glycol surface active agent 0.1 to 8 g./l., an alkali metal, e.g. sodium potassium, lithium, cesium or rubidium hydroxide 40 to 200 g./l., and an oxidizing agent 0.05 to 0.5 g./l. The composition may be prepared in solid form. Anti-foaming agents may be added. The oxidizing agent may be a sodium salt of a permanganate, molybdate, perbcrate, peroxide, chlorate, bromate, iodate, perchlorate, nitrate, hypochlorite, chromate and bichromate, sodium m-nitrobenzene sulphonate or chromic, picric, ortho-nitrochloro benzene-p-sulphonic or m-nitrobenzoic acid. The gluconic sequestering agent may be gluconic acid, sodium gluconate, glucono-deltalactone or materials which form these compounds in situ.ALSO:Metal surfaces contaminated with phosphates are cleaned with an aqueous alkaline solution of a gluconic sequestering agent 4 to 15 g.l., a polyethylene glycol surface active agent 0.1 to 8 g.l., an alkali metal, e.g. sodium potassium, lithium, cesium or rubidium hydroxide 40 to 200 g.l., and an oxidizing agent 0.05 to 0.5 g.l.
