Abstract
1,071,008. Bottling. SKANE-EMBALLAGE A.B. Nov. 17, 1965, No. 48865/65. Heading B8T. A machine for placing threaded caps on containers 5 has a shoe 3 which ensures that the lids are correctly positioned on the container before they are tightened. The containers 5 are fed through the machine on a conveyer 4 past a steam heater 29. After the caps have been tightened, the containers 5 are cooled by water to provide a secure seal. The caps are fed under gravity down a shoot 6, between side guides (7), (8), Fig. 10 (not shown), and a top rail (9), which can be adjusted for various sizes of cap by screws 30, 30a. From the shoot 6, the caps are transferred to a pivoted supply device 32 which has a pair of spring-biased stops (27), Fig. 10 (not shown), which holds each cap until the front rim of a container 5 catches the cap and pulls it from the device 32. A leaf-spring (28), Fig. 10 (not shown), presses the cap on to the container 5. The capped container 5 then passes under a first adjustable pressing shoe 3. The pressing shoe 3 has two adjustable guiding shoes (45), (46), Figs. 6-10 (not shown), and a friction member (12) fixed on to the shoe (45). The shoe 3 is pivoted about a fulcrum (47), Fig. 9 (not shown), parallel to the direction of travel of the container 5, and is biased towards the horizontal by a spring (48). If the cap has been supplied in an inclined position, it is always engaged by the friction member 12 (and sometimes the guide shoe 46), which causes the cap to rotate counter-clockwise relative to the container 5 until it is in its lowest position, Figs. 6, 7, 9 (not shown). In the case of a correctly positioned cap, Fig. 8 (not shown), the member (12) and shoe (46) do not engage the cap. After the cap has been correctly aligned, the capped container 5 passes under a second vertically adjustable pressing shoe 17. Adjacent the shoe 17 there is a pretightenener (21), Fig. 10 (not shown), comprising a pivoted arm (24) with a friction member (23) which is biased against the cap by a leaf-spring (53). After passing the shoe (17) and the pre-tightener (21), the capped containers 5 pass under a lid holder belt (26), Fig. 3 (not shown), and between parallel horizontal tightening belts (25), (60), Fig. 5 (not shown). The belts (25), (60) move in the same direction as the conveyer 4 but the belt (60) moves faster than the belt (25) and hence they rotate the container 5 relative to the held caps. Side belts (59), (61), Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), hold the container erect during its passage through the machine until it is engaged by the belts (25), (60).
