Abstract

1,070,344. Reciprocating pumps. DEPUTY MINISTER OF THE MINISTERUL INDUSTRIEI PETROLULUI SI CHIMIEI. March 19, 1965 [March 21, 1964], No. 11766/65. Heading F1A. [Also in Divisions H2 and H3] A deep well pump comprises two buckets or pistons 22, 22' working in pumping chambers P, P', and actuated at the beginning of each stroke by the delivery column pressure, and during the rest of the stroke by a linear electric motor operating at a constant speed (see Division H2). In operation, towards the end of the downward stroke under electric drive, the electric current is cut-off and the piston movement checked by the delivery column pressure and by buffer springs. At the end of the downward stroke, piston 22' uncovers a port 20' communicating with well pressure and a cam member 23 on piston 22 holds delivery valve 18 open, so that the delivery column pressure acts on piston 22 to move the piston assembly upwards until the electric drive is switched on again, piston 22' then performing a discharge stroke, and piston 22 a suction stroke. Towards the end of the upward stroke the electric drive is switched off, and piston 22 uncovers port 20 and cam 23' on piston 22' keeps delivery valve 18' open, so that the delivery column acts on piston 22' to start the downward stroke. If the electric drive fails or is cut off part-way through a stroke, a relay 30 operates valve 29 to connect the pump discharge to the well, so that the piston assembly moves under gravity to its lowermost position, an abutment 33 on piston rod 21 then returning valve 29 to its former position. The pump is then ready to start under hydraulic drive, abutment 33 being locked by relay 30 until the electric current is re-established. Alternatively, non-return valves controlled by a relay may be used in place of valve 29. The electric motor may be asynchronous or synchronous and single phase or multi-phase. The electric motor windings may be cooled by the pumped liquid or by a circulated coolant. The pump pistons may be positioned above or below the electric motor or one at each end Fig. 1 (not shown). The inlet and outlet valves 19, 19' and 18, 18' may be mounted between the pistons Fig. 5 (b), (not shown), so that only packings 24 and 25 need be high-pressure resisting. An electric motor control circuit is described, (see Division H3). The hydraulic drive may be augmented by springs.
