Abstract

1,070,212. Boxes. BOWATER PACKAGING Ltd. May 26. 1965 [May 26, 1964; Nov.25, 1964], Nos. 21743/64 and 47940/64. Heading B8P. A blankfollow-up to form a tube of rectangular cross-section has one pair of opposite end-flaps folded back on themselves to form a partition inset from and parallel to the box-end proper, the folded-back flaps each having in section a box shape, the other pair of opposite end flaps overlying at least in part the first pair. In one form, a box for a rigid transparent &c. liquid container having a tubular discharge opening, is folded-up from a double &c. fibre board blank having side walls 201-204 and bottom end closures (not shown), bent along score lines to form a tube with a closed end, flaps 230, 240 being folded to form a partition 243 within the box and parallel to its end, the partition having a slot &c. 248 through which the neck of the container projects. Having formed the tube and glued or stapled the walls 201, 204 together along their abutting edges, the two flaps 230, which are identical, are folded back upon themselves with their end walls 234 lying against the walls 202, 204. The flap 240 is next folded with its panel 241<SP>1</SP> across the panels 231 of the flaps 230, its panel 242 extending down the edge of the folded flaps 230, and its panel 243 across the box to the wall 203, Fig. 2 (not shown). The slot 248, Fig. 3, then surrounds the neck of the container. Finally, small flaps 220 are folded back upon themselves to lie on each side of the container neck, and a top panel 250 is closed over the end of the box; the parts are secured together, e.g. by stapling, and a strap is passed around the box. To open the container, a portion 254 having a tear line 255 is removed from the flap 250, thus exposing the neck of the container. Tear lines 253 enable finger holes to be made in the top flap. Hand holes 208, 209, 238 are provided. Tear lines 213 in the side wall 203 allow holes 212 to be made through which the container can be seen, to determine how full it is. In a modified form for a collapsible container, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), made from single corrugated board, a sleeve (360) is placed inside the box and supports a separate blank (362), having flanged edges (363), immediately below the panel (343) formed with the slot (348) for the neck of the container. The separate blank (362) has a suitable hole (364) coincident with the slot (348). An extra floor panel made from a further blank supports the base of the container.
