Abstract

1,069,878. Weighing apparatus. STANTON INSTRUMENTS Ltd. Jan. 29, 1965 [Nov. 1, 1963], No. 43183/63. Heading G1W. In a beam balance in which a scale pan 5 attached to a support 4 is pivotally mounted above and at one end of a pivotally mounted beam 1, the support 4 is provided at its lower end with a bearing, part of which is guided in an arcuate track 11 disposed in such a way and having a radius of curvature equal to that of the locus described by the pan supporting pivot 3 as the beam 1 tilts that the pan 5 is maintained horizontal when loaded. The bearing comprises a part which is rotatably mounted by ball or roller races in or around a fixed part attached to the support 4, the rotatable part engaging the arcuate track 11 which is formed in one surface of a member 12 fixed to the base 13 of the balance. The fixed part may be a drum (7) Fig. 2 (not shown) in which case the rotatable part comprises an axle 9 having a track engaging end disc 10 or may be a rod in which case the movable part is a wheel (15) Fig. 3 (not shown) rotatably mounted at one end of the rod. Elongated slots 14 may be pro - vided on the support 4 and on the base 13 to facilitate screw adjustment of the positioning of the bearing and arcuate track 11 respectively.
