Abstract
1,069,668. Vapour/gas burners. COMBUSTION EFFICIENCY CORPORATION. Nov. 30, 1965 [July 28, 1965], No. 50753/65. Heading F4T. A liquid fuel burner comprises a burner block 11 formed with a conical bore 13 defining a combustion chamber fed through an opening 33 from a mixing chamber 25 with preheated air and gasified fuel. A portion of the combustion products are led from the outlet end of the chamber 13 through conduits 27 and a manifold 28 to a chamber 14 into which liquid fuel is fed through conduit 21 and therein gasified. Forced combustion air is preheated in a passageway 30 formed in the burner block before passing into the mixing chamber 25 through a Venturi 26 which causes the flow of gasified fuel from the chamber 14 through conduit 24 to the mixing chamber. An electric band heater 18 circumscribes the chamber 14 for gasifying the liquid fuel during start-up and may also be utilized during operation of the burner if the temperature in the chamber 14 falls below a prescribed minimum. Valves 22, 34 control the supply of fuel and air to the burner. A front plate 12 allows the burner to be installed in an opening in a furnace wall or burner box. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the gasifying chamber 43 is formed in the burner block surrounding the combustion chamber 42 and a portion of the combustion products pass into chamber 43 through ports 48. The electric start-up band heater 44 surrounds the burner block which is encased in heat insulating material 45. An auxiliary fuel inlet 54 e.g. for gas, is provided in the passageway 52 connecting the gasifying chamber to the mixing chamber 47. An igniter may be introduced through a passageway 53 in the burner block opening into the inlet end of the combustion chamber.
