Abstract

1,069,211. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. MONO-CAM Ltd. March 26, 1964 [March 27, 1963], No. 12129/63. Heading G3P. The parts of a governor for a fuel injection pump are in the position shown when the engine is stationary; upon starting the engine the governor gear-pump 5 supplies pressure through a restriction 7 to a chamber 3 and moves a spring-urged piston 2 and control rod 1 to the right to increase the fuel supply to the engine. The pump is also connected to a chamber 9 so that as the engine speed increases the pressures in chambers 3, 9 increase until a spring-loaded control-valve in the chamber 9 is moved rightwardly to open a passage 8, 12 from chamber 3 to the pump inlet; the engine speed at which this occurs is determined by a lever 15 that sets the loading spring of valve 11. In a modification, a by-pass across the pump is controlled by a spring-loaded valve, the opening of which is adjustable and the spring-loading of which is greater than that of piston 2 but less than that of valve 11. The lever 15 may be dispensed with and the by-pass valve adjusted to determine the governed speed. The by-pass valve may be comprised by a spring-loaded ball-valve 26 in series with an adjustable throttle 30. These two embodiments, which are intended for a greater range of engine speed than that of Fig. 1, operate with a small pressure change in pump output passage 6 over the engine speed range.
