Abstract

1,068,718. Loading pallets. DOUGLASROWNSON Ltd. April 9. 1965, No. 15213/65. Heading B8C. A layer of articles is assembled on a flexible apron 4, Fig. 1, which is then quickly retracted to deposit the layer on a pallet (54) below. The pallet, supported on a platform 5, is lowered between the loading of each layer. Stacking articles on to pallets.-The flexible apron 4, see also Fig. 3 (not shown), comprises rollers (35) extending between side chains (36), which are attached to a winding drum 40 at one end and a tensioning device 38 at the other. When fully loaded the apron takes up a horizontal position resting on the pallet, and is then retracted round the drum to deposit its load. Lowering the pallet.-After each layer has been deposited on the pallet, the support 5 is lowered by an amount determined by a photo-cell (65), Fig. 4 (not shown), which views the top of the top layer of articles on the pallet. Feeding articles; stop motions.-The articles are transferred manually from a conveyer belt (not shown) to rollers 3, which are inclined slightly downwards towards the apron. The articles are prevented from moving on to the apron by the push-bar (25), Fig. 3 (not shown). When a complete layer of articles has been collected the operator depresses a foot switch 28 which causes the bar (25) to rise and the articles to be pushed on to the apron by a bar (26). In the event of a jam the force exerted on the bar (26) will cause a framework 31, on which the bars (25, 26) are mounted, to rise to position 31<SP>1</SP> thereby opening a switch 34 stopping the driving motor. Feeding pallets; delivery of filled pallets.-The fully loaded pallet is removed from the conveyer defined by the rollers 7 on to a further conveyer (not shown). At the same time a fresh pallet 9 is fed from the store 11 along the rollers 7 into position directly above support 5.
