1,068,572. Measuring heat flow electrically. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. June 26, 1964 [June 26, 1963], No. 26611/64. Heading G1N. The heat flow from an irradiated test piece is measured by locating it inside a double-walled cylinder having a temperature-sensitive resistor on the outer wall of the inner cylinder. As shown (Fig. 1), an irradiated test piece in its casing 19 is suspended inside a first cylinder 14 surrounded by a second cylinder 1. A temperature-sensitive resistance wire 22 is wound round the inner cylinder 14. The space between the cylinders is filled with a gas under pressure. The outer cylinder 1 is maintained at a constant temperature as by a liquid bath. It is shown that the change in resistance of the wire 22, measured in a bridge circuit, is proportional to the total heat flow from the test piece. Means for calibrating the apparatus are described.
