Abstract
1,067,571. Electric analogue calculating. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 16, 1964 [Jan. 16, 1963], No. 1925/63. Heading G4G. A function generator comprises input terminals 1, 2 and output terminals 11, 14 between which are connected means for producing a number of linear transfer functions, and a number of non-linear devices 3, 4 for determining which transfer function is selected. The means for producing the transfer functions comprises an amplifier 10 and a number of potentiometers, one resistor of each potentiometer being connected to the output of the amplifier. Assume diode 4 is conducting, then the slope of the transfer function is determined by resistors 9, 13 and its value with zero input at terminal 1 is determined by the bias at terminal 7 and the resistor 9. When diode 3 conducts the transfer function is similarly determined by network 5, 8, 12, the two functions having the same value at the change-over point of the diodes. Transistors may be used in place of diodes as the non-linear devices, and a cycle voltage may be applied to them to provide a fairing between the two functions. The amplifier may comprise valves or transistors.
