Abstract

1,065,599. Hydraulic brakes; brake indicators; controlling clutches. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Dec. 8, 1965 [Feb. 3, 1965], No. 4719/65. Headings F2E, F2F and F2L. In a master cylinder for use in hydraulic braking or clutch control systems of vehicles, a storage tank 1 is moulded of plastics material integrally with the cylindrical body 3 of the master cylinder, a passage 9 being provided between the tank and the piston bore 4 of the master cylinder to allow the flow of hydraulic liquid therebetween when the piston 21 is in the retracted position shown such that replenishing fluid flows through passage 9, radial passages 29 and past a seal member 27 through small holes 30 in the piston. Integrally formed with the master cylinder moulding 1, 3 is a tubular extension 8 formed with a mounting flange 15 to which is secured a plastics closure member 10 provided with a spigot portion 11 entering the tubular extension 8. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), an alternative master cylinder arrangement is disclosed suitable for braking systems in which the tank and the master cylinder are formed integrally with one another as a moulding of plastics material (for example a glass-filled Nylon), the tank being arranged so that its axis extends parallel to the axis of the piston bore of the master cylinder so that the whole unit is suitable for mounting in a vertical position. The interior of the tank may be provided with a resilient sac. Specification 1,065,599 is referred to.
