Abstract

1,065,598. Master cylinders. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Feb. 1, 1966 [Feb. 3, 1965], No. 4718/65. Heading F2F. A master cylinder is formed as a one-piece moulding in plastics material providing both the cylinder body and the reservoir. In the tandem cylinder shown a plastics secondary piston 6 and a steel primary piston 5 are arranged in a steel liner disposed in the moulding. Passages 14, 18 connect reservoir 9 to the spaces before and behind the piston 5 while the reservoir 10 is connected to the space 17 through a passage 15, a hollow split stop pin 36 extending through a slot 37 in the piston 6, and a valve 42 urged into sealing contact with a lip of the seal 45 but held open, when the secondary piston is in its withdrawn position, by the abutment of the valve extension 43 with the stop pin 36. A spigot 50 on the piston 5 has a head 51 which engages behind an abutment 52 at the outer end of a slot 53 extending lengthwise in an extension 48 of the piston 6, the pistons being held apart by a spring 47. Recuperation passages 32, 46 are provided in the pistons 5 and 6 respectively.
