Abstract
The invention provides 2:1 metal complex dyes free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups which dyes have the formula <FORM:1065439/C4-C5/1> in which A denotes substituted or unsubstituted identical or different phenyl or naphthyl radicals, B denotes the radicals of identical or different coupling components, X is the radical -O- and/or -COO-, Y denotes identical or different radicals -O-, -NH-, -N- aryl, -N- aroyl or -N- aryl-sulphonyl of which the aryl radicals may be substituted, the radicals X and Y in A and B are in ortho positions to the azo group, m is 1-4, Me is chromium or cobalt and K is a cation, R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl or aryl group, R2 is a saturated or unsaturated haloalkyl group, a vinyl group or a a -halovinyl, di- or trihalovinyl, a - or b -alkyl-vinyl radical or a substituted or unsubstituted a -hydroxy-methylene or -b -hydroxyethylene radical which is esterified with an aliphatic or aromatic sulphonic acid and in which the fibre reactive group may be attached by a direct link or a bridging group to radicals A or B of the complex. The dyes are obtained by metallizing with a cobalt or chromium yielding agent a dyestuff or mixture of dyestuffs having the Formula II <FORM:1065439/C4-C5/2> in which A, B, Y, R1 and R2 are as above and Q is -OH, -COOH or -O-alkyl group and m1 is 1 or 2, alternatively a dyestuff of Formula II may be metallized in mixture with a second dyestuff of Formula IIa <FORM:1065439/C4-C5/3> Metallization is preferably effected in a neutral or alkaline medium. The dyes may also be prepared by reacting a 1:1 dye metal complex (the dye is of Formula II or IIa) with another metallizable azo dye of Formula II or if the 1:1 complex already contains a group <FORM:1065439/C4-C5/4> with a metallizable dyestuff of Formula IIa. A further method comprises reacting a complex of formula <FORM:1065439/C4-C5/5> in which the symbols are as above with a methylol compound of formula HO-CH2-NR1-CO-R2 in the presence of an acidic condensing agent the starting materials being free from sulphuric and carboxylic acid groups.
