Abstract

1,064,324. Spiked-plates. COPYDEX Ltd., and H. PRESTON. Sept. 17, 1963 [Sept. 19, 1962], No. 35736/62. Heading F2H. The spikes 5 on a carpet-securing strip of tensile steel have their roots 8, Fig. 5, domed out of the strip plane. The bent-up spikes may be turned about their longitudinal axes as indicated in Fig. 2 and may be slightly helical in shape. The strip may be of stepped form, Fig. 6 (not shown), so that the edge of an underfelt can be secured on the spikes (5) of the lower plate (11) and that of the carpet on the spikes of the upper plate (10). To support the upper plate there may be cut-out portions (14) which may be spiked or have holes for screws (17) &c. or there may be just vertical cut-out portions (16) or mid-width cut-outs. For use with a stair carpet such a stepped strip may have an extension (18) with spikes (5) for the riser of the carpet. An angle-sectioned strip, Fig. 1 (not shown), with spikes (5) pointed across the angle may be used on stairs. A flat strip may have two rows of oppositely-directed spikes for joining two pieces of carpet and the arms of the angle-section strip or the stepped strip may each have more than one row of spikes. The strip may be secured by adhesive, nails or screws or by points secured to or cut out of the strip.
