Abstract

1,064,003. Brake operating mechanisms. BAMFORDS Ltd. Jan. 11, 1966 [Feb 25, 1965], No. 8100/65. Heading F2E. In a brake-operating mechanism for operating the brakes of a trailer vehicle from the driving position of a tractor vehicle, a brake operating lever 11 is pivoted at 12 to a quadrant plate 13 mounted on the forward end of the body of the trailer vehicle and the quadrant plate 13 has ratchet teeth 14 which co-operate with a detent 15 adapted to be released by a catch lever 17 pivoted to the hand brake lever when a brake release flexible element 23 is applied. This action causes a motion transmitting member, in the form of a triangular plate 21 pivoted at 18 to the brake operating lever 11, to pivot and cause a roller 26 to engage the catch lever 17 to release the detent 15, causing the brakes to be released under the spring loading means of the brake. When the brake applying flexible element 22 is applied the plate 21 pivots in a clockwise direction to cause an abutment pin 25 to urge the lever 11 in the brake-applying direction, the catch lever 17 being freed from the rollers 26 and the detent 15 sliding on the ratchet teeth 14 to lock the lever 11 in its brakeapplied position. A bar type handle 24 is disposed adjacent to the driving position of the tractor to facilitate the actuation and release of the trailer brakes.
