Abstract

1,063,667. Valves. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Nov. 22, 1965 [Dec. 18, 1964], No. 51529/64. Heading F2V. The sequence valve is suitable for controlling a relay in the pneumatic control, e.g. of a vehicle changespeed gear. The handle 3 is geared to a cam disc 2 which operates a series of valves in sequence. Each valve is adapted to place a common inlet 11 alternatively in communication with an individual outlet 12, 13 or with a common exhaust 14, 15. Each valve comprises a hollow valve member 6 which is slidable in a bore and co-operates with a seat 19 to control return flow from the outlet 12 to the exhaust 15 through an annular space 22 connected with passage 14. A piston 5 slidable in a reduced part of the bore carries a second valve member 17 which obturates passage 20 in valve member 6. The piston is backed by a ball 4 engaged by cam disc 2. In the position shown, the ball can enter a depression in the cam so that piston 5 is moved away by the fluid pressure and inlet 11 communicates with outlet 13 whilst exhaust 15 is closed. On depression of the ball by cam movement, the connections are reversed.
