Abstract
1,063,429. Twisting wires together. MICAFIL A.G. Jan. 12, 1966 [Jan. 26, 1965], No. 1438/66. Heading B3E. A method of winding wire on to a core to form a coil comprises the steps of feeding the wire from a wire supply means, winding the fed wire on the core to form a coil, then directing the wire from the supply means over spaced support members to form a plurality of side-byside loops, then relatively rotating the support members to twist the loops to form a strengthened end for the coil, and then severing the wire to separate the formed coil from the supply means. Wire 2 is wound to form a coil on a former 15 and the portion of the wire extending from the wound coil is laid about hooks 16, 17 by a rotated arm 10 and the turns are then twisted together by rotating the hook 17, the hook 16 moving towards the hook 17, to compensate for consequent shortening of the twisted wire bundle. During twisting the arm 10 pivots about the axis 7 and the wire extending to the arm 10 is wrapped around the end of the twisted bundle, Fig. 3 (not shown). After twisting, the hook 17 is swung in its own plane out of engagement with the twisted wire by a pneumatic cylinder 41 and linkage means, the wire engaging a stop 45. A similar twisted end may be formed prior to the winding on the former 15.
