Abstract
The catalyst of the parent Specification which comprises a material having catalytic activity in oxidising CO and hydrocarbons supported on a carrier having a surface area greater than 100 sq. in./gm., a pore volume of 0.4 to 0.9 cc./gm. and a pore volume distribution of diameters of 120 to 2000 at least 20% being 600-2000 , is modified in that the carrier has a nitrogen pore volume of 0.3 to 0.4 cc./gm. and a mercury pore volume of 0.4 to 0.8 cc./gm, comprised predominantly of pores having a diameter in excess of 3,500 . Carriers specified are Al2O3, SiO2, SiO2-Al2O3, SiO2-MgO, SiO2-ZrO2,Al2O3-B2O3, SiO2-Al2O3-MgO, AlPo4, MgO, acid-activated clay and bauxite. Catalytically active materials are MiO2, CoO, MoO3, Fe2O3, NiO, V2O5, Pt, CuO, Cr2O3 and Pd. Examples describe the preparation of Cu, Cr and Pd on Al2O3.
