Drilling.-Jigs for use in drilling articles such as the bosses of aeroplane propellers, in which the holes are required to be drilled in part from one face and in part from the other, employ locating means situated at a distance from the centre of the plates. Plates a, Fig. 1, are positioned by holes j engaging a spindle passed through the boss and are registered by bars e. After fixing the plates to the work by screws passing through the holes d, the bars are removed for use in setting other plates. In a modification, circular plates have means for engaging radial arms formed with an eye at one end to receive the spindle passed through the boss and split at the other for clamping to a bar such as e. In a further modification, the arms are split at each end and provided with adjustably positioned registering pins engaging holes in the plates. Instead of passing the drill through the holes in the plates, the plates may be used to locate a frame 1, 2, 3, Fig. 5, by means of a pin 6 carried by an adjustably clamped slider 4, a second slider 5 adjustable by a screw 9 and nuts 10 carrying a brush 8. The plate is provided with more than one row of holes and is notched at 12 to allow the drill to operate close to the inner row. The Provisional Specification describes a method of working with one jig plate only and with a " feeler-hole " through the boss instead of the finished bore.
