Abstract

1,062,487. Storage bunkers in conveyer systems. COWLISHAW, WALKER & CO. June 4, 1965 [June 19, 1964], No. 25549/64. Addition to 913,429. Heading B8E. A conveyer system comprises a main belt conveyer 10, Fig. 1, which delivers material, e.g. coal, to the delivery end of a bunker conveyer 11 where the material forms a pile 13 from which it is delivered to a belt conveyer 12, switches A, B, D, E being provided for automatic control of the conveyers in dependence upon the load conditions so that while the conveyer 12 continues to handle the material delivered by the conveyer 10, the conveyer 11 is moved in the delivery direction thereof, but when the conveyer 12 fails so to handle the material the conveyer 11 is reversed. The conveyer 11 consists of twin side-by-side endless chain scraper conveyers. In operation the switch A ensures that when the conveyer 12 is running normally the conveyer 11 is driven in the delivery direction, and when the conveyer 12 is stopped the conveyer 11 is stopped. When the pile 13 builds up it deflects a pivoted plate 15, Fig. 2 (not shown) to operate the switch B to reverse the conveyer 11 for a time determined by a timing unit T, Fig. 5 (not shown). This is repeated at intervals so long as the conveyer 12 fails to remove the material. When the conveyer 11 is full the pile 13 deflects a pivoted plate 17, Fig. 3 (not shown), to operate the switch E to stop the conveyers 10 and 11. If the pile 13 extends to the position shown at 13a a pivoted plate 18 is deflected to operate the switch D to stop the conveyer 10. When the conveyer 12 again starts up, the switch A is operated to move the conveyer 11 in the delivery direction thereof but the conveyer 10 does not start until the switch D is restored by clearance of the extended pile 13a. When the amount of material delivered by the conveyer 10 exceeds that removed by the conveyer 12, the conveyer 11 is reversed by deflection of the plate 15. The conveyer 11 is operated hydraulically under the control of solenoid valves SV1, SV2, SV3, Fig. 5 (not shown). Switches 35 allow selection of manual or automatic control of the conveyer 11. In a second embodiment, Figs. 6 to 10 (not shown), switches B<SP>1</SP> and C are operated sequentially by a single pivoted plate 15. A switch E<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 10 (not shown), detects overload of the hydraulic system which is controlled by solenoid valves SV4, SV5, SV6. The conveyer 11 is driven by a reversible hydraulic motor 30, Fig. 11 (not shown), supplied with oil from a variable delivery pump 32 which is of the adjustable swash plate type, the inclination of the swash plate determining the pumping stroke of associated pistons and the direction of supply of the oil to the motor 30. A boost pump 35 makes up any oil losses which occur in the main circuit and provides lubricating oil for the pump 32. The swash plate is controlled by a doubleacting hydraulic cylinder supplied selectively with fluid through two of the solenoid valves, e.g. SV4, SV5, to determine the direction of rotation of the motor 30 and the latter is stopped by opening of the other valve, e.g. SV6, which is bridged across the hydraulic lines leading to and from the motor 30. The pumps 35 and 32 may be driven by a single motor.
