Abstract
1,062,145. Raising sunken vessels. K. K. K. KROYER. Nov. 2, 1965 [Nov. 4, 1964], No. 46344/65. Heading B7S. Sunken vessels are raised by feeding into their interiors buoyant bodies (9), Fig. 1 (not shown), from a water container (5) in which water is maintained at a constant level by supply pipe (10) and overflow (7), conveying by perforated buckets (16) buoyant bodies (9) down below this constant surface level and releasing the buoyant bodies so that they will pass close to the inlet end (6) of the suction pipe (4) of a pump (1). The buoyant bodies (9) are caught by the stream of water generated by pump (1) and are carried through suction pipe (4) and tube (3) into the interior of the vessel. Perforated buckets (16) are attached to bucket wheel (11) which has propeller-like spokes (15) having an adjustable pitch. The rate of feeding the buoyant bodies into the sunken vessel can be regulated by the speed of rotation of the bucket wheel, the pitch of the propeller-like spokes (15) or by the position of the buckets (16). In another embodiment of the apparatus the conveying means consists of a vertical or inclined screw surrounded by a housing, the upper part of which is formed as a hopper for the buoyant bodies which may be gas-containing polystyrene balls or pieces of cellular plastic material. An adhesive of asphalt may be applied to the buoyant bodies after their introduction into the interior of the sunken vessel.
