Abstract

Hexahydrobenzoic acid is produced by contacting benzoic acid and hydrogen with a ruthenium catalyst in the presence of water in an amount of at least 5% by weight based on the benzoic acid, at a reaction temperature of from 50 DEG to 220 DEG C. and a pressure of 500-10,000 p.s.i.g. The process may be carried out continuously and, if desired, in two reactors in parallel.
