Abstract

1,061,739. Gear-cutting. CHURCHILL GEAR MACHINES Ltd., and P. GARNER. Sept. 27, 1965 [June 25, 1964], No. 26280/64. Headings B3K and B3T. A hobbing machine comprises a turret 10, 11 which can be raised, indexed and lowered to deliver workpieces to between stocks 38, 39 of the machine and an hydraulically-operated, steadying device 36 which can be urged outwardly to support the work 15 being hobbed. In operation, after a workpiece has been hobbed, the tailstock 39 is raised. The turret 10, 11 is also raised by a piston and cylinder device 17, 21 to bring teeth 22 on the cylinder into mesh with a rack 25 which is moved by fluid pressure to index the turret. The turret is then lowered and located by a pin 28. The tailstock is lowered to grip the work and the steady 36 is advanced against the work.
