Abstract

106,105. Nutter, S. Sept. 7, 1916. Sweeping-machines ; taking up refuse for removal. - Relates to machines for removing leaves, twigs, and like refuse from lawns, garden paths, and similar places, and consists of a brush 11 adjustably mounted at the forward extremity of a frame 2 carried on wheels 3, 4, the supporting wheels of the machine being brought within the frame. The bearings for the shaft 5 of the wheels 3 are adjustable lonngitudinally of the frame 2 so that the chain 7, by which rotary motion is transmitted to the brush from a sprocket wheel on the shaft 5, may be maintained taut. A guiding plate 14 pivoted to the frame directs the leaves and rubbish into a receptacle 13 detachably mounted on the frame. A free-wheel clutch ensures the brush being rotated in one direction only. The machine may be pushed by handles secured to the frame or may be drawn by horse or other power.
