[Also in Division A4] In a portable aquarium cleaning device dirt and other foreign matter is removed from the gravel bed 61 and drawn by suction into a flow of water through a tube 53 by a centrifugal pump rotor 46 which passes the material to a filter bag 66. The pump is driven by a motor (in a housing 10) energized by a dry cell battery (in a casing 30). When the tube 53 is vertical the gravel particles are agitated within the lower end of the tube and thereby cleaned. More effective cleaning of the gravel is achieved by tilting the tube 53 so that the gravel particles 61 are circulated within the end portion of the tube.
