Abstract
1, 059, 358. Rotary-piston engines and pumps. BIURO KONSTRUKCYJNE PRZEMYSLU MOTORYZACYJNEGO. Nov. 8, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], No.44229/63. Heading F1F. In a rotary-piston I. C. engine, pump or compressor of the n and n + 1 lobe type a plurality of radially-movable segments (4), Fig. 1 (not shown), lodged in the peripheral wall of the engine casing or body structure are pressed against the piston (3) by the pressure of working fluid transmitted from the working spaces between the piston and said wall to a plurality of spaces (11a, 11b, 11c) behind each segment through a corresponding number of individual passages (9a, 9b, 9c) in the end walls of said casing, the segments being supported by tubular carriers (7) through which cooling medium flows to a cavity (15) in each segment. The said spaces are separated from one another by partitions (12) situated in a fixed wall (5a). Sealing at the ends of each segment is effected by pairs of T-shaped members (21a, 21b), Figs. 2 and 5 (not shown), which are pressed apart by springs (23). The carriers (7) are sealed relative to said casing by flexible diaphragms (14). Alternatively, each of the passages (9a, 9b, 9c) contains a plunger (18), Fig. 4 (not shown), or a diaphragm, and is filled with a hydraulic medium by which pressure is transmitted to the spaces (11a, 11b, 11c). When the engine comprises two units, it may be further modified or improved in that each transfer passage (28), Fig. 6 (not shown) between the units is defined by a sleeve (26) lodged in a hole (27) which is sealed at one end by a resilient ring (29) which presses the sleeve against the side face of the piston -in one or other of the units.
