Abstract

An aqueous slurry of wood pulp containing also particles of a solid polymer of an aliphatic hydro-carbon is subjected to agitation sufficient to fibrillate the fibres and cause the polymer particles to adhere to the fibres. The polymer may be of ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, butadiene or isoprene, or a copolymer of ethylene with a minor proportion of propylene of 1-butene. The aqueous phase may be removed by filtration, and the resulting composition may be formed by pressure or heat or both. It may be formed into sheets, corrugated board, corrugating liner or packaging material. The pulp may also contain urea-formaldehyde, melamine-formaldehyde or silicone resins, dyes, pigments, or fillers such as asbestos and glass fibres.
