Abstract

Apparatus for coating an article with plastic comprises a tank or the like in which the article to be coated can be suspended, means such as blowers for agitating a supply of plastic in finely powdered form so that it forms a mist in the tank or the like, means such as baffles for preventing the powder being blown directly on to the article to be coated, means for charging the article to a high voltage relative to the powder so that the particles of powder are attracted to and form a coating on the article, means for removing from powder returned to the supply for recirculation any charge that has been picked up and for maintaining the powder at earth potential or at a potential opposite to that of the article to be coated, and means for curing the plastic. The apparatus may be used for coating window frames, girders, drain pipes, gutters, connecting sleeves, wire or netting with polyethylene, a polyamide, polyvinylchloride, and epoxy resin or cellulose acetobutyrate. The article to be coated may be preheated or pre-coated with resin or adhesive.
