Abstract

1,058,304. Purifying gases and oils. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. March 11, 1965 [March 12, 1964; July 28, 1964], Nos. 10566/64 and 30019/64. Heading C5E. Fluids containing hydrogen sulphide, carbon dioxide or carbonyl sulphide are purified by contact with an aqueous solution of a morpholine or an alkanolalkylamine which is regenerated by desorption and re-used. Specified amines are methylaminoethanol, ethylaminoethanol and similar propyl and propanol derivatives and morpholine containing 2,6- dimethyl- or -diethyl-2,3,5,6-tetramethyl- or -tetraethyl-, 2-methyl- or -ethyl- and 2- methyl - 6 - ethyl - substituents. The absorbent liquid may contain 0.5-8 moles of amine per litre and may also contain in addition to or instead of water, glycols, sulpholanes, aliphatic acid amides, perhaloalkanes, N-alkylpyrrolidones or N-alkylpiperidones. The fluid may be a hydrocarbon oil, or refinery or natural gas. An example describes the purification of a gas obtained by the partial combustion of hydrocarbons mostly comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen.
