Abstract

Tin is deposited on copper, bronze, brass, gold or lead using a solution comprising a tin salt, thiourea, and an alkali metal hypophosphite or hypophosphorous acid. In an example the solution consists of g.11 Sn Cl2 - 20, thiourea-75, Hcl (cone)-50ml., NaH2 PO2 H2 O-16, wetting agent (octylphenoxyethanol) 1. The pH is less than 2 and preferably less than 1. Other tin salts which may be used are stannous sulphate and fluoroborate. An organic acid may also be used, e.g. acetic, citric, malic, maleic, glucoheptonic, hydroxyacetic or glucone-delta-lactone.
