Abstract

1,058,125. Thermal switches. G.V. CONTROLS Inc. Oct. 4, 1963 [Oct. 4, 1962], No. 39218/63. Heading H2B. An electrothermal device for repetitively opening and closing a pair of contacts 60, 61, comprises a frame 20 mounted on a base 10 and an elongated electrically heated expansible controlling element 40 and an ambient temperature compensating element 30 each mounted at one end on the frame, the free ends of these elements 30, 40, being joined together and arranged to actuate the movable contact 60 as described in Specification 879,796, and the device is arranged such that movement of elements 30, 40 first opens a microswitch 70 in the heater circuit before actuating the contacts 60, 61 in the load circuit, the switch 70 being opened and closed at different positions of the elements. A bracket 37 joined to element 30 carries an adjustable screw 38 which operates switch 70 through a lever 79, while a lug 34 joined to element 30 carries an adjustable screw 35 for operating the spring arm 59 carrying movable contact 60. Contacts 60, 61 are normally open or normally closed (see also Fig. 6, not shown). The adjustment may be such that switch 70 recloses after contacts 60, 61 have both opened and closed.
